10 Films to watch this Valentine’s Day

It’s that Lovey Dovey time of the year again. Where you get to show your loved ones just how much you adore them (although that should be shown everyday and not just one particular day of the year, but annnnnnyway).

Even though there are a lot of people who like to get wine and dined outdoor, if your like myself who would rather be all romantic in the home, than waiting in a queue at a restaurant to sit opposite each other and look lovingly into each others eyes with 100 other people, then you have to come to the right place as I’m going to list my ten films you can watch on Valentine’s Day.

1.THE NOTEBOOK

This is such an obvious choice. If you are big romantic at heart and your partner still owes you one for leaving the toilet seat up AGAIN! Then put him through this 2hr 4mins of pure hopless romantic cheese. Set in the 1940s Noah (Ryan gosling) and Allie (Rachel McAdams) are two people who are deeply in love, but her parents do not approve. Separated by different life events, they meet again years later to see that their romance is far from over.

2. GHOST

Love a bit of mushy romance mixed with a bit of spooked. Then ghost is the one for you. Plus with Whoppi Goldeberg involved be sure for a couple of giggles included. Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) and Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) are a couple madly in love, but when Sam gets murdered by his business partner, his spirit is left roaming the earth. Seeking the help of Ode Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) he tries to make things right and protect Molly from his crooked business partner.

3. TITANIC

Want a romance of all romance films then it has to be Titanic. It doesn’t get more heart melting than this film. Be warned if your other half is all about 50/50 and is not so chivalrous then you might found yourselves having a little debate afterwards. Plus at 3hr 30mins you better have a snack or two around you. A look at how the largest ever ship built met its ill-fated ending, has the romantic storyline of a rich seventeen year old girl (Kate Winslet) falling in love with a sweet, kind hearted poor artist (Leonardo DiCaprio).

4. PRETTY WOMAN

Looking for something sexy, naughty with romance then I’ve got you with pretty woman. Prostitute (Julia Roberts) comes across wealthy businessman (Richard Gere). As he hires her to stay with him for a weekend, can two people from two different worlds find love with each other.

5. THE HEARTBREAK KID

Are you looking for a movie which shows a man who think he has found the right one, and she turns out not to be the right one? Heartbreak kid ticks all the boxes. Featuring Eddie (Ben stiller) who believes he has just married the perfect woman, Lila (Malin Akerman) and realises his married a wrong-un, encounters another woman on his honeymoon. I assure that you and Bae will be having several laughs.

6. HITCH

In my personal opinion any film with Will smith in it, I know I’m going to be enjoying it thoroughly. Will smith is Alex “hitch” the cool smooth talking date doctor that aims to help not so confident men unlucky in love find the women of their dreams. Helping Albert (Kevin James) get his crush Allegra, (Amber Valletta)”hitch” finds romance himself with Sara (Eva Mendes).

7. THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN

I have watched this film too many times to count on my finger and every single time I am practically rolling everywhere in fits of laughter. Having a romantic night in with a first date? Then enjoy plenty belly laughs with this box office hit. Andy (Steve Carell) is 40 years old and has never had sex. Revealing this secret to his friends at work, they go on a mission to get him laid. But along the way he meets Trish (Catherine Keener) a single mum who he falls head over heels in love with.

8. THE PROPOSAL

I’m a sucker for seeing two people you wouldn’t ever picture being a couple, getting together. Although very predictable (but aren’t almost every romantic films like so) the proposal is about a pushy boss Margaret (Sandra bullock) forcing her slave driven assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her so she avoids being deported. They both can’t stand each other and need to convince a INS Agent their relationship is legit, in the midst of it all can they find love with each other?

9. BRIDE OF CHUCKY

So your other half is not having it with your romantic film choices but you still want to get your fix? Chuck on the bride of Chucky. On a film about Chucky (Brad Dourif) a doll possessed by a serial killer, discovers the perfect mate to kill and trying to revive their bodies into better dolls.

Shaun-of-the-dead

10. SHAUN OF THE DEAD

Lastly to finish it off, this will probably keep your hubbies attention the most. If you have made him sit through any of the first three (let’s be honest, film 4 caught his eye a few times) then give him a treat with this one. Truth be told you’ll find yourself getting into it too. Labelled as a zom-rom-com Shaun (Simon Pegg) shows it takes a real man to win back his girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) by fighting a bunch of ghouls zombies after an apocalypse breaks out.

What do you guys think of my ten choices? Any hit or miss? What would you add? I hope you all have a lovely Sunday whoever you are with, and I’ll see you in my next post.

Take care
